I Wrote a Cookbook! The Complete Clean Eating Cookbook

Yum

November 22, 2019 By Laura Ligos, MBA, RD, CSSD

I’ve been holding in a secret from you guys, a pretty big, 300+ page secret. I wrote a cookbook this summer and I finally get to announce it to the world. I spent my summer cooking copious amounts of recipes to share with the world one of my true passions, food. The Complete Clean Eating Cookbook is coming out next week and it is full of 200 #sassyapproved recipes for you to devour.

You Did WHAT?!

Yes, you read that right, I wrote a cookbook. Earlier this year a publishing company reached out to me and proposed the idea of a 200 recipe Clean Eating Cookbook. At first I thought it was a joke. Who would want ME to write a cookbook anyway?!

I almost deleted the email thinking it was spam, but then I sent it to a friend and she was like CALL THEM BACK. So, I did, and here we are months later with an actual cookbook IN HAND. I am incredibly proud, excited, nervous, tired, and exhilarated and just am super excited for you to get to enjoy the fruits of my labor (haha, pun intended).

Why Clean Eating Cookbook?

Oh boy, I knew this was going to be a hot topic of debate. It seems that no matter what you say or label something in the nutrition world these days you will have people shame you and doubt you. And you know what? That’s ok. I got into this field to help improve the health and well-being of others not to please people by every last word that comes out of my mouth. I know I can’t help or please everyone but I sure as heck am going to do my best to change the lives of many through food & nutrition.

Ok, so back to “clean eating”. To me the phrase doesn’t mean all that much except, eating real food and limiting processed foods. It is NOT a diet. It is NOT a restrictive plan. It is NOT a gimmick. It is a lifestyle based on eating real food and cutting back on processed foods, which we know are not all that great for our long-term health.

This book focuses on how to eat real foods, how to enjoy balance (hello, there’s a whole chapter on desserts) and focuses on 200 recipes for crying out loud.

That being said, I know some people will get all twisted over the title, but as they say, you cannot judge a book by it’s cover. And, if you know anything about me, you know that I don’t make rash decisions (took me 6-7 years to agree to marry my now husband, ha!) and I don’t believe in BS or restrictive diets or behaviors. I hope you know that a lot of thought, blood, sweat & tears went into making this cookbook and for me, it’s only the beginning. Maybe one day you’ll see The Sassy Dietitian’s Cookbook hit stores some day soon.

The Complete Clean Eating Cookbook

Now that you understand the title, let’s talk about what’s in this cookbook! I made 200 recipes that are focused on real foods, real ingredients, and simple approaches to getting whole foods on your dinner table, in your lunch box and in your breakfast routine. I even have tips on how to substitute an ingredient or make it ahead of time.

I have recipes that are great for  breakfast, snacks, sides, vegetarians, and even dessert. I also have whole chapters dedicated to certain proteins including chicken, fish, pork, and beef. You have something in the house you need to use up? Chances are, there’s a way to do it in the book.

The recipes are inspired by all different cultural cuisines including: Greek, Mediterranean, Indian, American, Italian, and everything in between. I actually spent an ENTIRE day formulating the 200 recipes and even more days actually figuring out the ingredient list and the directions. It was an incredibly time-consuming project and frankly I could not believe I was capable of such a huge feat.

Sassy’s Favorite Cookbook Recipes

Ok, I figured I’d give you some insight into some of my favorite recipes from the book. While it’s hard to play favorites as I put so much time and effort into each of them (is this how parent’s feel?) I do want to give you a sneak peek into what recipes could be yours!

Next Steps?

Well, as I mentioned, the next steps are eventually to publish more resources under The Sassy Dietitian name and this is just the start. In the meantime I’ll be sharing recipes on Instagram (and fingers crossed, on some video formats too) as well as hosting some in person events. Have an idea for me? Let me know, I’m all ears.

Thank Yous

I really could have not done this book without the help of my amazing support system. So many friends offered up their weekends and week nights to help me make and remake these recipes. I made MANY kitchens messy and also fed a lot of humans in the process. I am so thankful for all of you guys for believing in me, supporting me, and helping me clean up the 5 million dishes. This cookbook would’ve been 500 years late without you.

I also want to thank you, my loyal followers. You inspire me every day to create content that helps you improve your diet, lifestyle, and relationship with food. This cookbook is meant to be a resource for you so that you can confidently answer the questions “What’s for dinner” for many dinners to come. You are the reason I am still building The Sassy Dietitian and I am so grateful that I get to show up daily in this capacity for you all.

Let me know what questions you have! I hope you enjoy the recipes as much as my friends and I have.

xoxo,

Sassy
