This Strawberry Mocha Milkshake might be just enough to fill you up and hold off sugar cravings. Blend it up and enjoy it post workout or just as a mid morning pick me up!

Chew-se Wisely

Ok, I don’t mean to beat a dead horse, but with a mouth that is not 100% functional {yet} i’ve had to be a bit creative for my diet. Now, I have nothing against milkshakes and smoothies, frankly I recommend them for clients all the time. The only thing is I prefer to chew my food instead of drink it. Straight up preference.

I have pretty much always been this way. I just find more enjoyment and satisfaction out of chewing my food and get grumpy when I have to drink instead. That being said, it’s not that I don’t drink anything throughout the day, I just usually chew lower caloric options to fill my hydration needs while still leaving room for meals and snacks galore.

During a normal day the only beverages I have are: black coffee, water, seltzer water and kombucha. Besides that my meals and snacks fuel me for the day. Now, that’s not to say I won’t have an adult beverage in the evening but I drink that alongside my food and snacks.

Shake Things Up

Smoothies and shakes are a really fast and easy way to get your nutrition in for a meal or snack. I recommend them for people who have trouble fitting in their calories/macro needs, like athletes or those looking to put on weight/muscle. I also recommend them for those that are having digestive issues. Why? Because the blender does a lot of the work for you. Consuming food that is already partially broken down allows the gut to do less work to process and absorb the nutrients. Finally, I recommend them for those that have issues chewing or swallowing, a smoothie/shake will be inherently easy to consume for that crowd.

That being said, it’s not that you cannot drink a smoothie/shake if you do not fit into those above categories, it just means you may not benefit as greatly as those that do. Why? Well for the flip reason, a food that is partially broken down before consumed is easier for your body to use (i.e. if you need quick energy) BUT makes it that much easier to be stored for later use (aka glycogen & fat stores). For some this may not be a big deal, but for those looking to lose weight it could stall progress or slow it down.

Strawberry Mocha Milkshake

I always preview my recipes on Instagram, to of course show you the beauty of the food. However, I also love to see if you are as excited as me for the food I create. You guys were VERY excited about this one so you must either really like milkshakes or you have no idea what the Instagram Polls are even about. That or you are one of my friends that likes to troll my polls, I see you.

For this recipe I was just going to make a mocha latte milkshake like my mom had recommended. However, I got distracted (as I often do) when I opened the refrigerator and saw all the strawberries I had. I decided to throw them in there because YUMMMMMM. You can easily remove these from the equation if you don’t have them. However, I’m partial to their sour-y sweetness, especially this time of year.

If you know you’ll be in a rush, gather all the ingredients the night before, mix the collagen & cocoa powder and just dump everything in your blender at desired time of consumption. Enjoy!
