I was lucky the other night to be invited to our local theatre’s preview show. It was called Proctors’ 2019-2020 Announcement Bash and I’m so thankful to have been apart of it. If you had asked me almost 7 years ago when I moved to Albany if I would have made Albany my home, I probably would’ve laughed. I was struggling to find my place in the community and at the time, I had no intentions of staying here forever, but man I love this place and find new things to immerse my self in weekly.
When Proctors reached out and asked if I’d be interested in checking out their Announcement Bash, I of course jumped at the opportunity. Health is so much more than just the food you put in your body, it is also what else you are doing the other hours of the day that help with your health. Going out on the town with friends gives me joy, so I snagged up the tickets and brought my hand-dandy assistant/manager/bestie and headed to Proctor’s to see what all the fuss was about.

Sassy’s Local Bites
Alright, a side note. I’ve been brainstorming lately ways that I can document local events, eats, and everything that doesn’t quite have to do with nutrition/fitness/recipes. When driving today I thought “what about Sassy’s Bites or Sassy’s Local Bites?!” Well, it might not be the best thing but I’m going to make it a thing. It will be where I write about my experience at local restaurants, fitness studios, events, etc.
I’m not going to limit it to Albany, but expect a lot of it (for now) to be Albany based. I want to start traveling more and hope that I can take Sassy’s Bites on the road with me. Stay tuned
For now, I’m going to start my Sassy’s Local Bites with this Proctor’s event I was invited to, so let’s see what it was all about.
Proctors Theatre
Proctors Theatre is a well known theatre located in Schenectady, NY and is a site for a lot of shows to do “teching” at. This means that they launch their play here and work out all the kinks before moving to places like NYC or on tour across country. That’s pretty awesome that Upstate NY is the place where shows start, who knew?!
I’ve had the opportunity to go to a few plays over the past few years thanks to my friends and have toyed with the idea of getting a subscription to their shows but haven’t yet bit the bullet. After sitting in on the announcement show, it makes me want to subscribe and get my theatre on more this year. TBD on that.
2019-2020 Announcement Bash
This bash is a tradition that Proctors has been doing to announce the shows for the year to come. It’s how they show their current subscribers what’s coming up so they can get excited and sign up for the next year. This year they have shows like Willy Wonka, Phantom of the Opera, & Hamilton, definitely going to be hard to top but there are SO.MANY.SHOWS lined up for this next year. There are 2 sites for shows, Proctors in Schenectady and The Rep in downtown Albany. I’ve been to both and both are so unique and always a good time.
This year’s line up was fun to experience, we got to see some previews as well as some live singing/dancing from some of the actual singers/dancers their respective plays. The shows this coming year include:
- Cats– Proctors, 4/28-5/3/2020
- Dear Evan Hansen- Proctors, 6/9-14/2020
- Fiddler on the Roof- Proctors, 2/18-23/2020
