National Coffee Day
It is no secret that I am a coffee lover. I haven’t always been, though. My mom used to make coffee at home and I loved the smell but the taste was anything but tasty, to me.
Fast forward to a few years down the road.
It all changed when I was in Grad school. My friend Kelsey was hooked on coffee and told me to try it. Well at 11pm when you still have a few more hours of work to do, anything tastes good, and that is where my love affair with coffee began.
I now enjoy a cup of coffee every morning. I love it hot but if it’s extra warm out, I’ll take it cold. I like it on the go, and at home. I like it in a coffee mug or in a to go cup. I like it black and I like it with a little milk/cream. But let’s see what my favorite things about coffee are today in honor of National Coffee Day!
Friday Favorites: Coffee Edition
Favorite Cold Brew
I found Chameleon Cold Brew a few years back and was so amazed at how smooth their cold brew was/still is. It does not leave you feeling jittery and it’s so smooth tasting without any burnt or bitter notes. It happens to be good cold or hot. When I was at Expo East, I tried their sparkling cold brew coming out next year. OMG, MAGICAL. Stay tuned for it’s 2018 launch.
Favorite Chameleon drink? Vanilla Concentrate of course.
Favorite Local Coffee Shop(s)
While I will drink coffee from almost anywhere, (don’t hate but I actually do not like Dunkin, so I’ll pass if that’s the only option, also not a k-cup fan, SORRY NOT SORRY) I have two favorites. Since I’m from all over, I could not just pick one. My local place in Albany is a winner and they now have multiple locations. The other is from my home town and I visit almost every time I go home. Check them out.
Stacks Espresso Bar (Albany, NY)
I found this place thanks to local runner/marathon/social media influencer, Erin Wrightson (@thelittlerunnergirl) as her and her hubby own the place and it is so freaking cute! They even have nitro cold brew on tap. Not to mention it’s one of those places where you get a huge cup of coffee and feel at home. I should probably head there right now.
Baltimore Coffee & Tea (Baltimore, MD)
The Snicker-Snicker (think Snickerdoodle flavor) coffee is what coffee dreams are made of. I love that you walk in and the place smells like coffee heaven. They have so many whole bean varieties to take home with you, I can honestly never choose which one to get!
Favorite Starbucks Drink
Flat White. This coffee drink is classified by “two ristretto shots, topped with a thin layer of velvety steamed whole milk and finished with a latte art dot”
Yes. I am a basic girl, with basic needs. This drink, is all my friend Sandy’s fault. She once asked if she could get me a coffee. I said, sure whatever you’re having. And the rest is history. But then my friend Meredith worked at Starbucks, and I got it for free. I became an addict.
Yes, it is expensive (it’s Starbucks after all), so I mostly drink coffee at home. I treat myself on mornings I coach because it’s on my way home and a 4:45am wake up call tells me I need coffee.
Favorite Coffee Mug
At Home Mug: My Quotable mugs are my go-to (Find here) as they are sturdy, hold a LOT of coffee and remind me of an important message.
To Go Mug: I am on the go a lot and I cannot start my day without coffee. Trust me. My favorite one says But First Coffee (here). It’s not the most robust mug, but gets the job done. My Hyroflask mug is much better if I need coffee to not get spilled on me AND to stay hot (here).
Favorite Coffee Add-In
I do not like sweetness in my coffee, no thank you. However, I do love cinnamon and spices. Sprinkle it on top of your coffee masterpiece and BAM, magic. On occasion I’ll take some cream in my black coffee. That normally only happens if the coffee taste like garbage, which I really don’t like garbage coffee.
Favorite Non-Coffee Drink (For my Tea Lovers out there)
Homemade Chai Tea Latte. Oh wait, I have a recipe for that, here. I love the spice and taste of fall in a cup. I hate the added sugar you find when ordering out, so I prefer to make it myself AND it makes for a great gift.
Now that you know all my favorite coffee things, let’s give a shout out to coffee lovers everywhere. Let me know what your favorite coffee drink/mug/mix-in/shop, etc. is today! And, bonus points if you bring me a coffee some time soon 🙂
