I’m a little late here but, you know what they say, better late than never. While I briefly recapped 2017 back here, I wanted to take this time to review 2017. I”m hoping that it gives you some insight into what’s going on and what’s coming next. Mostly it’s just a journal so I can look back and remember all that happened this year one day.
This year had a lot of ups, a lot of downs, and a lot of time in between that I’m not even really sure what happened. I had to ask my friend what happened this year as sometimes my memory is the worst. After thinking about it, I realized just how crazy this year has been. In the spirit of Friday Favorites and because I’m obsessed with lists, I’ll categorize the major areas of my year, you’re welcome.
Speaking of you’re welcome, I’m pretty sure I’ve seen the movie Moana at least half a dozen times this year, and I could watch it again…YOU’RE WELCOME!
This one was a big one for 2017, so I’m putting it first to get it out of the way.
If you haven’t figured it out yet I’ve made some crazy career moves this year. My friends and I actually titled 2017 the “Year of the Quit” because almost all of us have made some type of transition from our previous job to something new. I hate being left out, so I guess it was my year too.
I started the year working at InsideTracker full time, added meal planning with Designed to Fit Nutrition, attempted to keep my brand alive, see clients sporadically, coach CrossFit and a few things in between. I was burning the candle at both ends, was stressed and was incredibly unfulfilled. I was working on a team that didn’t work for me and it was time to move on. I left InsideTracker in September and since then have been loving life. While I gained some great friendships and relationships from IT as well as experiences, it was time to move on.
While I don’t recommend everyone up and leave your job, sometimes your gut is telling you something and you should listen. Mine was telling me you’re working too hard, stressing too much for too little of a reward. So, off to bigger and better things for me!
I continued on with Designed to Fit Nutrition and am currently still doing meal plans and helping to launch their new business, Nutrition House Software. Not to mention I’ve been spending a lot more time on the blog and Instagram. ANNNND Nutrition Genius Radio made a comeback, stay tuned for more in 2018. I’m really excited to see what 2018 holds for the blog, Designed to Fit, Nutrition House and other opportunities that are knocking.
I was in 2 of my best friends’ weddings this summer. I cannot believe how fast it all went! When I was asked, I was thrilled. Some people may be hesitant about the whole process but I love LOVE. I love seeing everyone come together to celebrate a couple and I love tearing up the dance floor in celebration.
2 bridal showers, 2 bachelorette parties and 2 wedding days later filled with laughter, dancing, tear-filled eyes, dance floor push-ups and of course champagne, my 2 besties tied the knot and got to join me in the married life.
NYC, Boston, Wisconsin, Maryland, North Carolina, Wyoming, Utah, more Boston, Cape Cod, Vermont, Key West and I’m sure a few places in between. I put a lot of miles on my trusty car, spent the Eclipse day in an airport and got to explore some really fun places thanks to work, life, friends, and family.
I cannot wait to see where this year takes me. I actually have minimal travel planned thus far, so if you have any suggestions, I’m all ears. I’d prefer warm but I’ll make anywhere a destination and a place to Yelp the crap out of it to find the best taco/sushi/burger etc. Bon Voyage!
Oh man, when I moved to Albany I pretty much just had JJ and my coworkers at Albany Med (thank god for Pearl). I was kind of miserable. Not a knock on JJ, he was super supportive and loving through my move. However, I am an extroverted girl through and through. I get energy from crowds, friends, outings, and parties. I searched for a while, found a few good ones but still felt like I didn’t have a place here in Albany.
Well, I can confidently say (if they read this they’ll definitely make fun of me for being emo) that I have found my people. They are loud, smart, funny, a little (read: a lot) crazy, fun, and all around good people. They love board games, dogs, dinner parties and fanny packs. They have my back even though they rip on me and I, them. That’s what friends are for…making sure you’re using an Oxford comma and that you are telling the truth, showing up to the gym and finishing your glass of wine (or water). Not to mention, they make the best Rockband partners and Brunch companions.
Where would I be without my family? Though they live far away, they’re just a call away. This year we spent Thanksgiving with JJ’s family, Christmas with mine and a week vacation with both. We got tan in Bald Head Island and frotsbit at Stratton, Vermont. While we sometimes butt heads (what families don’t?) it’s great to know they have your back.
Fitness is my sanity. It’s my break from reality. It’s my gut check. It’s my favorite time of day. I love moving, stretching, running, hiking, lifting (sometimes), burpee-ing and kettlebelling. I should’ve tracked how many days I spent at the gym, that would be fun to know. I go to Crossfit Aevitas for the fitness but stay for the people, sounds corny but it’s true. I have a home gym that I use sporadically but I get a much better sweat (and laugh) on at the gym. Here’s to many more hours spent throwing weights around and calling it exercise, even though I’d call it fun 🙂
Last but most certainly not least, FOOD! I love food. I love talking about food. I love eating it. I love cooking/baking/making it. I surround myself with others that also love food, which makes life so much fun. This year, the blog was relaunched and the recipes were flowing again.
Honestly, working at InsideTracker became incredibly stressful for me this year, it stopped my creativity, stopped my cooking and was a downright bummer. Once I left, I started getting back in the kitchen, started spending more time on Pinterest and rekindled my love with this blog, cooking and all things food.
Phew, that was a lot!
Peace out 2017, let’s see what 2018 has in store for us all!
Happy Friday! Hope all of you are staying warm this weekend. We are under a wind chill advisory so I will be cuddling under multiple blankets, hanging out with friends, making food for our friend’s fancy New Year’s Eve (a week delayed) dinner party, drinking a lot of coffee & of course some wine.
Ps. I almost forgot one important piece, my sidekick Bode. He sometimes drives me crazy, and I’m sure I drive him crazy too, but man having a dog is really one of the best things in this life. They love you no matter what AND provide endless entertainment.
