It does not matter what time of year it is, bacon wrapped dates are one of the BEST appetizers out there. While the holidays may be over, there is always a reason to want a tasty yet healthy appetizer that isn’t double wide and fried. These will go fast no matter if you put them out on the dinner table or bring them to a party or gathering. They may not appear to be the prettiest food out there, but throw your expectations away and enjoy the sweet and salty taste that they have to offer.
I have posted this before a little while back on my old website so I wanted to bring it back for you all so that you have a delicious appetizer to get you through the year. When I make any sort of bacon wrapped dates they are usually the first thing to go. Why? Well because they are so dang delicious but also because they are easy to eat in one bite. Many appetizers require a fork or 10 napkins, this? Just one hand, so you can leave the other hand open for hand holding or a drink or helping you talk like me (can’t help it I’m Italian!)
Feel free to omit everything but the bacon and the dates if you are short on time or not feeling like stuffing the dates. Instead just wrap each date with a slice of bacon, stick it with a toothpick and bake it in the oven for 20 minutes or until the bacon is to your preferred crispiness, yes it’s that easy.
I like to make sure I have everything lined up assembly line style. Dates first, then goat cheese mixture, then bacon, then toothpick. Repeat until dates run out. No, not when your date runs out, when the DATES run out. Only kidding!
Enjoy! And don’t forget to share these (believe me your bowel habits will thank you.)
