Friday Favorites: Dog Walks & Joggers
Happy Friday Sassy friends! It always seems like an accomplishment getting to Friday, don’t ya think? I’m pretty sure me and my friends plan for Friday every day of the week, even on Fridays. That being said, we should celebrate Friday with some favorites since it’s been awhile, right?
This week I want to talk about one of my daily activities as well as a piece of clothing I’m not sure I can live without, especially this time of year. Both of these things are my favorite, and while one is an activity and another an article of clothing, we are going to try and link them together, so bare with me.
If you didn’t catch my delicious Pear Cranberry Crisp, go check it out and have a piece while reading about today’s favorites!
Dogs, Dogs and more Dogs
That’s my girl Amber, looks like Bode, but she was the sweetest little girl there ever was <3
I had a dog growing up, her name was Amber, and she was the best. The day we lost her hurt more than I could imagine. If you’ve ever had a pet, you know, it’s literally like a piece of your heart was ripped out and dragged behind a tractor trailer and then shattered into a million pieces. Okay, that was dramatic, but I seriously cried for days after we lost her. It’s like they say:
“Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole.” – Roger Caras
Alright, didn’t mean for this to get sappy, it’s Friday afterall. The point is, I mostly enjoyed the fun parts of having a dog growing up. My mom had the joy of taking care of Amber and walking her daily, feeding her, cleaning up after her, etc.. I got to play with her, snuggle with her and just love the crap out of her. I’d occasionally join my mom on their daily walks but I let her deal with all daily ins and outs of owning a dog.
It was not until last year, when I got my own dog, Bode, that I realized the importance of a daily walk for the dog AND me. Not to mention, how different this dog would be than the last and how it would not replace, but expand my love for all things. Once again, you know what they say:
“Dogs come into our lives to teach us about love, they depart to teach us about loss. A new dog never replaces an old dog, it merely expands the heart. If you have loved many dogs your heart is very big.” Erica Jong
I always figured my mom just liked walking the dog (and she still does) HOWEVER, I now realize to keep the dog owner from going insane, a daily walk is imperative. Well, not to mention we own Wheaten Terriers, whch are known for their hyperness, energy and overall puppy-like tendencies. They also happen to be stubborn as all hell.
Dog Walking for your Health & Happiness
Ha! Made you smile 🙂
If you follow me on Instagram, it’s no surprise that I walk my dog. The only days I don’t are the mornings I coach CrossFit (my hubby gets to spend some QT with the dog) OR if the weather is so terrible, that we can’t make it outside. It has to be pretty terrible for me not to walk outside, so I usually get 6 walks per week. Bode is obsessed with sprinklers, leaves and school buses. We are known in the neighborhood by Bode’s name, and that he sits for school buses (it’s a trick we had to teach otherwise he’d be chasing the bus).
You can find research for anything, I am aware, BUT there is some good info out there on why walking is good for your health. Not to mention, they say (haha, whoever “they” are) that just owning a dog is also good for your health. That’s like a double bonus if you walk your dog, right?
They have also found that the average dog owner walks 22 more minutes per day than those who do not own a dog. That’s kind of cool, don’t you think? If you own a puppy it must be 500 hours more per day because they just don’t stop.
I come up with some of my best recipes, ideas, warm-ups and just plain old thoughts on our walks. I also find myself laughing, meeting more people and being able to start my day with a clear mind. Coincidence or science, up to you what you want to believe, walking (my dog) is my favorite.
Run (or maybe Walk) On Jogger
Since I am walking often, I like to be comfortable AND not look like a total slob. In walks joggers. These pants cut in at the ankle and are basically just a more fashionable version of the sweatpants I wore all through High School & college. That’s called “adulting” right?
Anywho, when I walked into visit my friends at the Albany Lululemon, and told them I was in the market for some new joggers to coach in and to walk my dog in, they led me to my Run On Joggers. I am a fan of a run on sentence, and a good run, and now, a good run on jogger. Win-win-win!
The pants are super soft, stretchy and most importantly comfortable. Not to mention, I now look like I tried in the morning, when really I didn’t have to try at all. Jokes on you neighbors 🙂
You can find these pants here. Or, if you are in the Albany area, check out the actual store. Tell them Sassy sent you! Why? Because you will find WAY more out by going to the store than online. The staff is incredibly helpful and knowledgable. Not to mention, FREE alterations should you be a shorty like myself.
Now onto collect all the joggers, because they are just my favorite!
Enjoy your Friday friends, and let me know in the comments what your Favorites are this week!
We are so good at this modeling thing, right?!!
