In honor of re-launching my blog, I wanted to share with you why I started The Sassy Dietitian & more. Share your thoughts with me below in the comments.
The Sassy Dietitian Beginnings
I launched this website in hopes of sharing healthy recipes and healthy ideas with my friends and family a few years ago. I honestly was so unsure if it was worth it, if it would matter, or if anyone would ever read it. However, as time goes on, I realize that this blog is so much more than just a place to put recent recipes. It’s become my small slice of sassy pizza pie, errr I mean internet space where I can share with you my ideas on food, nutrition, fitness, and personal thoughts/feels.
None of this happened overnight, although a lot did (does) happen between jobs, after jobs, before jobs, and in long car rides (just ask my friends.) It’s a labor of love that seems on the outside to be “easy”, “fun” and something for many to laugh at, or copy. I’ve almost given up many times. I’m so glad I didn’t If I did I would’ve missed out on Expo East (& meeting Dana from Real Food with Dana and Kendall from The Flexible Foodie), FNCE (& connecting with 88 Acres, Fellow RDs, and brands galore), my delicious Instant Pot Mongolian Beef and the amazing stories of each and every client I’ve worked with. It’s brought me to a place where I can help educate, counsel, and empower others to eat food to fuel their goals, and that is so freaking cool.
You know how they say “first they’ll ask you why then they’ll ask you how.”? Well, I feel that fully. When I first started this it felt like even my friends viewed what I did as just a hobby, and maybe back then it was. It felt like I was being laughed at when I told people I worked from home and that I was busy. I still get that sometimes and believe me, I’m not sitting at home eating bon-bons and drinking on my deck.
I was (and still am) busy learning new/old things like: how to build websites with Carrd, how to start a podcast, how to write to an audience, how to bill clients, how to cover my butt with insurance, how to take food photos, and so much more.
So if you think this happened overnight and that it was easy, it wasn’t & it still isn’t. But none of that matters because I truly & honestly love what I do. I love working with my clients, I love educating groups of ready-to-learn humans, I love trying out new healthy recipes, and I LOVE being able to connect with people from all over the world. It ain’t easy but it’s so beyond worth it.
In case if you want to start a podcast as well, or write a blog or anything for that matter, by which you mean to communicate to a wide audience, go for it. As I said it would be worth it!
What’s In Store for The Sassy Dietitian?
As I’ve grown both as a person and as a dietitian I’ve realized I have a voice, an incredibly strong passion, and a teeny-tiny platform to stand on. I have the responsibility to give you a no-B.S. yet understanding and scientifically sound approach to nutrition. I hope that I’ve been able (and will continue) to open your eyes to all the crap that is out there about nutrition and I hope going forward to continue to help you navigate those muddy waters.
Needless to say, I’m not going anywhere. I have some cool projects coming up this year and am open to others that come my way. I want you to know that I’m always in your court and want you to know you can come with me with any nutrition question you have, no matter how big or small, because I get it, nutrition and your diet is hard, it’s personal, and it’s confusing AF out there. I wouldn’t dare try to fix my car–i’m not a mechanic! So why go searching google when a Sassy Dietitian will do for your health, nutrition, and {some} recipe needs?
The Sassy Dietitian Vision
My vision for this blog is to give you the tools and resources you need to find freedom in your food, diet, and lifestyle. I’ve always said, if I do my job right, you won’t need me anymore.
You may want to hang out, talk nutrition, and come back when you have more questions, but you will be able to fend for yourself. Why do I say this?! Because I want you to be a nutrition genius, a meal planning ninja, a grocery shopping whiz, and a diet debunker.
Here’s the thing, I want you to WANT to invest in your health for the long-term and realize that there are no quick fixes, no free rides, and certainly no lack of confusion in the industry. I’m here to debunk myths, educate the world on what a Dietitian does, and make some really freaking good recipes.
My vision is far greater than this blog, but it’s the birthplace of Sass (okay, just The Sassy Dietitian) and I plan to continue bringing you the truth, some fun, and some delicious & nutritious food, sound good?! Great 🙂
Thank You
Thank you all for being here and for believing in me, even when I sometimes don’t. It’s been a crazy journey and this new website feels like an investment in The Sassy Dietitian’s future.
If you could take a minute to let me know how you found me and what you want to see on this blog, it would mean the world to me.
