Burgers make the world go round. Okay, that’s not true but at least we can pretend. Since summer is kicking off this weekend with Memorial Day, let’s celebrate with some kick butt burger recipes! Enjoy.
I love this time of year. The sun is shining, the grills are firing up and it’s time to spend A LOT of time outside and in bodies of water. This weekend I am celebrating my birthday, hanging out with friends, enjoying A LOT of delicious food and doing Murph (a CrossFit Hero Workout) at our gym.
Burgers happen to be one of my favorite foods this time of year (okay read: always). However, I think many people view burgers as boring and not exciting. I wanted to bring you some of the most delicious (and mostly healthy) burgers I have found on the interwebs and through my own trial and error. I’ve been known to house burgers post swim meets and post workouts. I love them on a bun, over a salad, with fries, with a side salad and with toppings galore. I just love burgers and hope you will enjoy some this weekend with me!
My Go-To Burger Toppings
A burger can be delicious on it’s own but how boring is that! One of my favorite places to get a burger is The Abbey Burger Bistro in Baltimore, MD. It is there that I started to get the idea that burgers were a tasty vehicle for as many toppings as you can fit on one plate! They even put peanut butter on some of their burgers, and it’s delicious. If you need some inspiration, here are some of my favorite toppings:
- Caramelized Onions
- Cheese (Cheddar, Mozzarella, Swiss, Provolone, Pepper Jack, I’m not picky, clearly, just not American)
- Fried or Sunny side up egg
- Portobello mushrooms
- Avocado/Guacamole
- Bacon
- Traditional Lettuce, Tomato & Red Onion
- Jalapenos
- Pickles
- Ketchup, Mustard, BBQ Sauce
What are your favorite toppings? I love trying new combinations to see what flavor combinations I can create. Sky’s the limit with burgers. I even like to change up the type of meat I use. I’m getting so hungry already just writing this!
Memorial Day Burger Recipe Round Up
Okay, here are some burgers for you to put on your menu this weekend. Stop letting burgers be boring, instead make them the star of the show. You’ll be coming back for more (if there are leftovers) and you will be firing up your grill all summer long.
Enjoy!
Half Baked Harvest’s Jalapeno Cheddar Guacamole Turkey Burgers with Crispy Onions
OMG, Half Baked Harvest is worth checking out just for her drool-worthy photos. These burgers sound like a dream. Anything spicy is right up my alley. She pairs it with some of my favorite toppings, so what could go wrong?
Half Baked Harvest’s Greek Roasted Cauliflower Burgers with Pan Fried Feta and Tomato Olive Salsa
I obviously could not just pick one HBH recipe, they all look so good. This one is so non-traditional that I wanted to give it a shout out. I mean, hello feta cheese, mic drop.
Budget Byte’s Green Chile Turkey Burgers
I used to hate turkey burgers, that was until I realized I was doing it wrong. Turkey burgers need some help in terms of moist-ness. These green chile burgers look perfect, sign me up.
PaleOMG’s Grilled Pineapple Stuffed Chorizo Burgers
Chorizo is such an underutilized meat. This unique burger flavor is one way to keep things fresh and interesting this summer. I cannot wait to try this and can’t believe I haven’t yet!
Pinch of Yum’s Southwest Chipotle Burgers with Guacamole
I guess I have a thing for Guacamole on burgers, sorry, not sorry. I love southwest flavor combos and feel like this could be used in place of taco Tuesday, and that’s saying a lot.
Damn Delicious’ Asian Burgers with Spicy Lime Mayo
This burger is another unique combo. I don’t often think to do an Asian inspired burger but think my next burger may be just that.
The Real Food RD’s Bison Burger with Pineapple Sriracha Aioli
These ladies make the most delicious food I’ve ever seen. Not to mention they are RDs so they are always looking at ways to make your old favorites healthier. I LOVE bison and wish it was more available (and cheaper). Next time I find it on sale I’m making these.
Real Food with Dana’s Whole 30 Brunch Burgers
Well it’s no secret that I love breakfast, eggs and all things brunch. I would eat these Brunch Burgers any time of day. Just put an egg on it!
Sassy’s Goat Cheese & Roasted Red Pepper Turkey Burgers
These are my favorite burgers to make during the week. They aren’t greasy at all and are so rich in flavor. I put them on almost all of my clients’ meal plans, because they are so protein dense and delicious.
Sassy’s Caprese Burger with Garlic Basil Parmesan Fries
Just dropped these babies off this week and have been eating them all week. Caprese salad is one of my favorite appetizers so I figured why not combine it with dinner. This dish is a winner.
Okay, now I’m hungry. Time to get my grocery list in order for the weekend. Let me know which burger you plan on making this weekend and what your favorite burger toppings are!
Time to go relax and get ready to get my butt kicked, Murph style on Monday at CrossFit! Happy Memorial Day, enjoy the weekend in honor of all those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
xoxo,
Sassy
