Trick or Treat
Let’s find out how Sassy enjoys her Trick or Treat Day, shall we?
Why hello there and Happy Halloween! By now you have already been bombarded with candy, cookies, funny shaped Pinterest cookie characters and every other sugar monster out there. While the temptation is to just throw 3 sheets to the wind and eat every last bit of candy in sight, take a moment and CHILL OUT. You are an adult (or if not, you know an adult) and can stop yourself from eating everything within a 5 mile radius of yourself, I believe in you.
I don’t want to be a Scrooge, so luckily this post is rather uplifting and positive, I think. No tricks like eggs being thrown at your house this go-around and no food police. Instead, I wanted to share with you some of my favorites treats and a good ‘ol Halloween trick or two to keep you on track this Halloween.
Not to mention, I’ll share some of my past halloween costumes.
Hopefully you find today’s combination healthy and delicious. If not, I guess the tricks are all on you today. Happy Halloween everyone, and don’t forget to enjoy yourself good ‘n plenty and don’t be a dum-dum!

Trick or Treat, Sassy-Style!
Let’s get the tricks out of the way first so you can enjoy your treats, sound good? Alright, here’s my quick & dirty tricks for Halloween (and the Holiday season, really).
- Plan to treat yourself. It’s okay to plan to have a treat or 2 for halloween or a holiday. It is NOT okay to then sabotage yourself and eat ALL the treats. So pick out a few treats that you want, plan them into your weekly routine, and call it a day.
- Donate your candy to those in need. While nobody NEEDS candy, there are others out there who could use your extras. Need a few ideas? Check out this list here.
- Start your day with a healthy meal (not candy). If you start your day off with candy today, or tomorrow, or the next, chances are you will slide down a bad path the rest of the day. Start your day off with a good meal with veggies, protein and water and you’ll hit the ground running!
- Do not PUNISH yourself for eating a treat. I really hate seeing all these “run X miles for 1 Reese’s peanut butter cup” signs. No, just no. If you eat a treat, great, enjoy it and move on. Don’t workout for punishment, workout because it feels right for your body.
Listen, I’m not the food police. I think everyone should have some treats now and then, after all you work too hard (well most of you) to not Treat Yo’self once in a while. I’ve included my favorite treats you can find in-stores and online as well as ones you can make for yourself and knock the socks off your friends next time they are craving a treat.
The brands below are not sponsoring this post, it is literally the treats that I reach for when I need something sweet but don’t want to put a load of crap in my body. Afterall, I (and you) work hard for your health, why blow it all on an artificially sweetened, food-dyed piece of junk!
Biena Foods Roasted Chickpeas
If you have been following my Instagram, you know my new found love for Biena Roasted Chickepas. At Expo East, I was introduced to their sweet line including: Salted Caramel, Milk Chocolate and Dark Chocolate. I snag a few of these chickpeas anytime I feel the sugar-monster rear it’s nasty head and am met with a tasty, satisfying and not overly sweet treat.
Eating Evolved Coconut Butter Cups
I have been obsessed with these since the beginning of time! Fun fact: I had these as my wedding favors because I love the taste AND the ingredients are 100% #sassyapproved. Nowadays you can find these delectable treats in your local Whole Foods and Health stores, jackpot!
Heavenly Organics’ Chocolate Honey Patties
With 3 ingredients how can I not love these! The mint chocolate honey patties are my favorite, like a peppermint patty, but better. Three cheers for clean ingredients!
If you haven’t had Theo chocolate yet, you are missing out. I love all of their chocolate bars as they are limited in sugar and made with real, whole ingredients. I tried their coconut bites at Expo East, and I’m hooked!
While not the shortest list of ingredients, still ingredients that are recognizable and not a whole wagon-full of sugar. So, it’s a good option for those that are trying to switch over from the regular sugar-filled treats to someting you can feel okay about!
Here are a few options of Halloween treats that I would make year-round, not just for Halloween. They cut back on the sugar (a bit) and use real ingredients, none of that artificial crap. Not to mention, they are made by some rockstars. You’re welcome 🙂
