Inside The New Job
Hi friends, I have exciting news that I have been kind of hinting at for the past week or two and I finally decided to put it on the blog for you to hear about! I want you all to know what is going on and feel free to ask me questions as I jump into this new position while maintaining the blog and my Sassy ways of course. I was not even in the market for a job when this was presented to me and it was almost too good to be true when an old college friend reached out to me around the holidays. It was one of those emails you see and almost delete because you are sure it was not meant for you, but then I realized I KNOW this person and opened it up. After a few exchanges and an opportunity to get to the know the company and it’s employees I decided it was the right move for me and my career.
One of the biggest struggles I have had as a “real food” dietitian over the past few years is making individualized recommendations that clients will stick to and be successful with over and over again. Many in the nutrition and fitness struggle with this as there is a lot of research as well as anecdotal evidence out there to support many different approaches as it relates to health, fitness and nutrition. Not to mention the 1,000,000 posts on social media daily to support or argue against different diets and lifestyles. Now you may think, isn’t this your job? Why, yes it is. However, nutrition is very personal and without enough information it is hard to see the whole picture. Why do I tell you this? Because the opportunity that came knocking, connected the dots for me and I hope it does for others as well.
Okay, okay I know you want to know who I am working for. The company is called InsideTracker and they are a biomarker testing company based out of Boston, Massachusetts. The proof is in the blood and these guys (and gals) are passionate and hard working and working for them seemed like a no brainer, now to see if I can help them be the future of health care that I know they already are. I am excited to see where this opportunity takes me and I hope you join me on that journey. Now to explain…
What is InsideTracker?
I had the same question when my friend Ashely called me. The name is pretty self explanatory but let’s get into it more. It is a way to track your inside health at it’s simplest. However, the more I delved into the company and what they had to offer I realized it is so much more than that. It’s the future of prevention and helps each and every one of us take our own health into our hands.
We normally wait until we have something wrong with us to get lab tests done but blood can be a window into our health that we can use for our benefit and help us optimize our health before anything is wrong. However, we normally do not have the opportunity to just draw blood and test for ourselves. In walks InsideTracker and the game has now changed. You now have the opportunity to check your blood throughout the year to see how you can best optimize your health and to see how your diet and lifestyle is working for you personally. Your blood, your results, your health.
With InsideTracker, your blood is analyzed based on scientific evidence and gives you your personalized optimum zones for each of the biomarkers that are tested depending on the plan you purchase. From there you are given nutrition and lifestyle recommendations based on your results as well as taking your dietary preferences into consideration. You even will have the opportunity to speak with Ashley, our resident Dietitian if you have any questions. Your plan will be completely unique to you and may even change over time depending on your blood because guess what, your blood does not lie!
Who is it for?
While we have a lot of pro and olympic athletes that use our product, any one can use it. Everyone can benefit from learning more about their health and biomarkers. There is even a really affordable test called “Inner Age” where we test a few biomarkers and come up with your true Inner Age based on the results. Wouldn’t it be great to know that age and then find ways to lower it? This test is for you, no matter where you are in your health journey. Even if you think “Oh, I’ll do it when I start eating better” or “I’m already healthy enough” you can start tracking TODAY and be healthier now, why wait?
Why Do I Recommend It?
I love that hashtag, it makes me smile every time I see it because I like a good pun and a good hashtag but also because it is very true. While blood can be very personal it is very objective. While I can get food diaries and food recalls from person after person, a blood test gives me so much more insight into your health as an individual. While I will not play the role of dietitian in this company, I still think as a dietitian it makes sense to look deeper into our health and take control now, not later. The recommendations are backed by science and the team members are filled with passion for everything they do. AND we focus on food first, so that makes me all kinds of happy. There are no gimmicks, no blown up health claims, just results and I can get behind that, can you?
Why Did I Take the Job?
How could I not? When opportunity comes knocking on your door you of course have two options, okay maybe three. 1) Open the door and see where it leads, 2) completely ignore it or 3) tell it to go away. I have had many people over the years try and sell me products and ask me to be a part of their group. However, if I do not feel passionate about it or would not do it myself, I have to let them go and take the # 2 or #3 approach. When InsideTracker contacted me, it’s all I could think about and could not wait to try the test myself (more on that to come). I would not only recommend this to people but I myself would do it regularly because it just makes sense.
While I may have not been actively looking for a new job, I was looking for a way to advance both my dietetic and my entrepreneur career and while I had no idea what that meant, this seemed like the best thing that could have ever presented itself. The opportunity is one I am grateful for and I cannot wait to see where it takes me.
So there it is, phew!
Let me know if you have any questions! Stay tuned for what else I learn by testing with InsideTracker and my journey with this food first company!
ps. don’t worry, Sassy isn’t going anywhere, there will still be recipes and posts!
